I read Adele's book and her story resonated with me on many levels. It's very similar to my memoir, which was published in 2006, Out of the Cocoon: A Young Woman's Courageous Flight from the Grip of a Religious Cult, in that we both fell into some really hard times after leaving the cult. It's not because we "became spiritually weak and no longer had Jehovah's favor" but rather because our family put us in an impossible situation with no life skills, no emotional or financial support, and no empathy for what we were enduring. They created the dysfunction in our lives, but through it all, we triumphed.

So often the prodigal son (or daughter) outcome as quoted from the Bible is the result of abusive family dynamics and yet the Watchtower/Jehovah's Witness member almost always blames the victim rather than the perpetrator. It just goes to show you, good can overcome evil. I recommend this book so you can see what children of Jehovah's Witnesses endure in the name of a "loving" Jehovah God and "Christian" organization. Shame on the leaders of these cults!
